Loan Agreement / Promissory Note

Bilingual promissory note for personal loans — amount, interest, instalments, default, and witnesses.

How to use this template

1) Fill lender and borrower identities fully. 2) State principal, interest rate (write 0 if none), and due date/instalments clearly. 3) Sign before two witnesses; notarise if practicable. 4) Verify stamp duty locally. 5) Keep a separate receipt if cash was handed over.

Legal notes (read before signing)

Sample only. A written promise to repay may be enforceable under the Contract Act, 1872. Excessive interest or coercive terms may be scrutinised. This is not a substitute for a cheque-bounce (s.138) notice if a cheque is involved. Appropriate stamp duty under the Stamp Act may apply—verify locally.
