Road Accident
After a road accident in Bangladesh, the law sets out steps for safety, liability, and compensation. The Road Transport Act 2018 governs reckless driving and accidents, and victims or their families can claim compensation.
What should I do immediately after a road accident?
First, get the injured to safety and arrange medical help — saving a life comes before anything else. Then, if you can, photograph the scene, the vehicles, and number plates, and note witness contacts. Report the accident at the nearest police station by filing a General Diary (GD) or case. Keep all medical bills and documents, as they support any later compensation claim.

Can I claim compensation after an accident?
Yes. A person injured in a road accident, or the family of someone killed, can claim compensation under the Road Transport Act 2018. Keep medical records, the police GD/case number, and evidence of lost income. Compensation may be pursued from the responsible driver or owner, and the Act provides for a fund and process to support victims.

Who is liable for a road accident?
Liability usually falls on the driver whose reckless, negligent, or rule-breaking driving caused the accident — for example speeding, signal violations, or driving without a valid licence. The vehicle owner can also share responsibility. Offences causing death or serious injury carry criminal penalties under the Road Transport Act 2018, in addition to any compensation owed to victims.
